CONNECT: get involved
The Arts Development Unit plays a key role in the Playhouse’s work, promoting arts education and access for all. A variety of activities are on offer, designed for a broad range of ages – including Heydays for the over-55s, and a range of activities for children and young people. These include Imaginary Worlds for 2-4 year olds, Storymakers for early years and KS1 children and the SPARK project for pupils from KS1 to KS4. The Playhouse also runs Creative Education Weeks for early years to KS3 pupils and Partners Plus for students over 14. Season-specific activities include the Summer Programme for children aged 4 to 13 and WYPpets for 8-12 year olds during the Easter holidays.
Adult training organised by the Arts Development Unit include Arts Extra, an annual course for those working with young children, and Cybercafé sessions for members of community groups.
Other activities include Skills Generation which aims to share skills across generations, Community Network which supports inner-city community groups, and Celebrating Memories, a two-year project which aims to link up community groups with heritage organisations.
The Arts Development Unit also includes the Playhouse’s Schools Company, which works in partnership with Leeds schools and other venues where young people learn or socialise. Recent projects have included Living Stories for primary school children and Visiting Grandad for very young children.
